What makes Dr. Mongiello more able to care for my child than another Chiropractor?

IMG_6381.jpg

Dr. Mongiello is a husband and father of 4 little children and has always had a special connection with kids. He wanted to make sure every child has the opportunity to grow up living the best life they can through healthy choices. It became obvious, however, that it was not easy to get a straight answer from most children when it came to evaluating them. He knew that there was more to learn about when it came to adjusting children.

Dr. Mongiello is one of only 19 certified Chiropractors in the state of Georgia who has undergone the arduous pregnancy and pediatric training offered by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association.  The ICPA Certification Program is a comprehensive 200-hour program consisting of 19 course offerings. It is designed to expand professional ability in adjusting techniques, evaluation, and assessment of different stages of development: from pregnancy, birth, infancy throughout childhood.

ICPA seminars are taught from the salutogenic perspective which focuses on strategies, environments and lifestyle choices that empower individuals to experience the full spectrum of life. All techniques taught in the Certification Program are those currently taught at Chiropractic colleges and are adapted for children and pregnant patients.

The final exam is between 60-70 pages long and typically takes candidates 3 months to complete to receive Certification by the Academy Council of Chiropractic Pediatrics (CACCP).

Why should I get my kid checked? They look fine to me.

Benjamin Franklin once said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Joseph Malins even wrote a poem about it that you can read

In most cases, it may seem like our smallest patients have nothing to complain about. Unfortunately though, this is not always the case.

Some of the most significant subluxations (sub-LUX-say-shuns) can happen during the time in the womb, birth, and childhood. A recent research article has demonstrated that a majority of children (99 out of the 100 checked at 6 hours after their birth) are born with spinal misalignments which may play a role in some of our earliest issues. The average child will fall directly on their lower spine 5,000 times while learning to walk.

These are just a few examples of our normal life that can cause these subluxations (misalignments in joints combined with nervous system irritation). Subluxations early in life are more significant due to the nature of the spine and nervous system during these times. Until we are about 7 we are like a sponge taking in every aspect of the world around us. During this time the brain, nervous, skeletal, and other systems are going through periods of development and self-evaluation. The self-evaluations are reflective periods in which we compare our current environment to what we have experienced previously. If something we experienced in the past was not how it should have been, we can improperly integrate that as our “normal” and set up our entire future through this type of evaluation. When the brain and body cannot communicate properly, this is the beginning of many different symptoms and diseases. No matter what anyone tells you, you don't have to accept your new normal. Pediatric Chiropractors can find and gently correct these issues and restore your child's ability to repair and maintain itself. We need to recognize that there is more power within our children to heal than the scalpel or a spoonful of medicine could ever offer.

I remember the overwhelming sense of responsibility I had when I became a father in caring for and raising this most delicate life. I bring that understanding into my office when caring for your most precious children too. Pediatric Chiropractic is much different than Chiropractic for adults so I studied 2 additional years to be board certified in pediatrics to better care for this specific population. Chiropractic by properly trained doctors is very safe, gentle, and effective for children of all ages; even the newborn.

If you have more questions on this or any other topic, feel free to schedule an appointment for a consultation in our office.  We are happy to discuss your questions and concerns towards achieving optimal health through Chiropractic.

I am a mom to two little ones. I am someone who traditionally uses western medicine as my go to for any issues my boys have. However, when my youngest was about 4 weeks old he seemed to be favoring turning his head to one side in addition to experiencing colic. Dr. Mongiello affirmed and eased my concerns. He was incredibly gentle adjusting my tiny baby, and gave me a very realistic treatment plan that was primarily some small changes for me to make at home. After following his guidance, our baby has stopped favoring one side and his colic has fully resolved.
